OUR SERVICES

PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

Westchester Wellbeing offers various types of Psychological Evaluations designed to help individuals understand their strengths and challenges and link them directly to effective intervention. Our offerings include:

Psychodiagnostic Evaluations

Psychodiagnostic assessments provide insight into whether an individual is endorsing enough symptoms in particular areas of functioning to warrant what is referred to as a psychological or psychiatric diagnosis. This catalogue of symptoms is often based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Version 5. When enough symptoms are endorsed by an individual, they then meet criteria for a particular diagnostic category.

Psychoeducational Evaluations

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of the mental processes that govern academic, social, and personal achievement. This detailed assessment is equally valuable for identifying high-achieving students and those who struggle with learning or behavioral impairments.

Neuropsychological Evaluations

A neuropsychological evaluation is the most comprehensive type of psychological assessment as it seeks to understand the relationship between brain health and behavior. All aspects of neurocognitive and emotional functioning are assessed including intellectual, academic, expressive and receptive language, simple and complex attention, memory and learning, visuospatial, executive, problem solving and reasoning, sensorimotor, personality, social-emotional, and adaptive behavior.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE EVALUATION

Initial Consultation:  During our initial consultation, we will work together to clarify the referral concerns and questions and decide which evaluation type is most pertinent to the issues raised.

Intake: We begin with a detailed interview and data gathering session to understand your specific concerns, educational history, and goals for the evaluation.

Assessment Sessions: The evaluation typically involves two or more sessions, including cognitive and academic testing, as well as behavioral and emotional assessments. If applicable, caregivers and teachers will be asked to complete rating scales and/or questionnaires aimed at providing contextual information. The duration and number of sessions depend on the complexity of the issues being assessed.

Detailed Report: After completing the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive report that includes findings, interpretations, and actionable recommendations. The report will provide insights into learning strengths and challenges and offer specific strategies to support academic success.

Follow-Up Meeting: We schedule a feedback conference to discuss the results, answer any questions, and develop an action plan based on the recommendations. If applicable, school based meetings can also be arranged.
